As I strolled by the lake in California's golden state, A Black-Crowned Night Heron caught my gaze, so great Its beautiful feathers and eyes fiery red, A sight so stunning, it filled me with pure dread
Perched so gracefully, focused on its prey, In that moment, time seemed to slip away The shimmering water, the Heron's regal pose, Nature's beauty, in perfect repose
I smiled at the Heron, a silent hello, Grateful for this moment, a feeling that did glow A reminder to cherish, to protect and preserve, The wonders of nature, for all to observe
So let's tread lightly, with love and care, For the creatures around us, so rare May we always appreciate, the beauty we see, And keep our world, forever free
